And I will try to keep with things, but come on, the call of Sissy time is strong..
So help me help you help each other (got that? ) if you see a great deal, a fun activity, a fabulous coupon, etc - post it in the comment section of this post.. Help your fellow Dealie Denverites find great Weekender ideas, etc...

TIA, TTFN!

Hot Tip - Barnes and Noble Kids reading program

From the lovely Flower05:
Here is something for your Deals in Denver blog I thought you might be interested in. It is a free book from Barnes and Noble for kids.

Here's How It Works:
1. Kids read any eight (8) books of their own choosing.
2. Kids use the Summer Reading Journal to tell us their favorite part of each book. A parent/guardian signs the journal when it's complete. You can also get a Spanish-language Reading Journal.
3. Children bring their completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 26th & September 7th, 2009.
4. We'll give them a coupon for a FREE book! They choose from a list of exceptional paperback titles.*

* Eligible books will be listed on the coupon. Choices must be made from available stock. No special orders. Limit of one (1) form per school-age child (grades 1-6), please. Incomplete forms will be ineligible for free books.

Happy 3 day weekend, fellow Denverites.. Now go hug a vet!

ETA -Check out Saturday's Denver Post for lots of great ideas for activities this weekend and all thru the summer... (bonus points to them for including The Lancer in their patio drinking feature instead of taking the obvious and overplayed route and pointing out Govs Park in the 'hood. WOO HOO Lancer!!!)

Pickin' Chicken

So Albertsons and Safeway both have b/s chicken breasts for $1.88 lb...
bummer for King Soopers, they missed the memo on that one, I guess...

ETA- I was giving the giant packages of chicken breasts and breast tenders at Albertsons the stink eye when the butcher stocking them informed me that I could go to the meat counter and get a package as big or small as I wanted... (I did want to take advantage of the great price, especially on tenders which are a great size to have around, but my grocery budget is small this week and I do have some chicken in the freezer already) I was able to get 2lbs packaged up for me, and spend exactly what I wanted to spend!! Awesome!

In addition to last week's specials, good thru tomorrow, check out these new deals being featured starting tomorrow:

-Beef Back Ribs - $0.99 lb

-Large Artichokes 0 $0.99 each

- Potatoes (5lb bag), Califlower, Onions (2lb bag), Cucumbers, Baby Carrots (1 lb bag), Grape Tomoatoes (10oz.) - 2 for $3.00

-All natural extra lean ground beef - $1.99 lb (family pack)

-Deli Salads (last minute picnic contribution!) - $0.99 lb

Culture is something good for you...

...like liver, spinach, and beets too.... (am I the only one who was forced to sing the "not so boring minuet" in elementary school?)

Anyway, if you want to experience a bit of culture for no cash, then this Thursday BEFORE 4:30 pm you should head over to the DCPA complex and get in line to get your free ticket to that evening's performance of "Quilters." Each person in line can get only one ticket, and I am assured that the line does form a bit early (the box office opens at 4:30 for this, the doors open for seating at 6:00pm, and the curtain goes up at 6:30pm)

It looks like a good one - see more about the play here.

Colorado Springs? - this one is for you!!

Dunkin Donuts locations are offering a free small iced coffee today (and with the thermometer set to go over 90 degrees, that will really hit the spot!)

Locations in Colorado are very limited tho...

5/26/09 - So sad, but it appears that Aurora no longer has DD stores, leaving only Co Springs in a DD zone...

::sigh::

Turn on your Heart Light - Poll

So the HR department just called to inform me that I won a free Heart Scan during our benefits fair recently... Now I LOVE free stuff, don't get me wrong, and preventative medicine is a fabulous thing - yet I am hesitant. What if it is just a ploy, giving these things as prizes, and then they try to scare me into having a bunch of expensive scans?
What if they find something scary? A month before my 33rd birthday, I don't know if I could take it... Jesus died when he was 33 (yes, I know that I am not the savior of all mankind, TYVM).

Should I do it?

It is a shred-stravaganza around Denver this weekend!

Ok, so Saturday's shredding frenzy at Asbury sounds good and cheap, right?
But this weekend is actually KUSA9's annual Shred-a-thon with locations all over Denver and the 'burbs... and the only charge is a suggested donation to Crime Stoppers, very worthy imo...

un repas excellent bon marché

oh and hey, that probably doesn't make sense, because alas, it was my Sis that took French, and French Cusine (and the attitutde that surrounds it a lot of the time) was a driving factor in my premature departure from Culinary School...
HOWEVER - Le Central has always been decidedly affordable, not-at-all inaccessable classic French fare... and this is such a deal it is downright folle...

Thursday - Sunday from 3- 5 pm Le Central has a "happy hour" that includes 3 dollar drinks and a wonderful assortment of small plates for $1.50 or $2.00!

See the full menu here - what a wonderful start to a romantic weekend night, or the perfect way to cap off a day together in the city...

Your identity is probably worth this 5 bucks

There is a shread-a-thon happening this Saturday from 9am until noon at Asbury Elementary School in the DU neighborhood... There is a small charge, but you can get rid of all of those sensitive documents you want securely destroyed while you watch - and then they haul it all off to be recycled!

How sweet it is?

I love it when you can find the best of both worlds.... this may be the best product for me that I have seen in a LONG time: Sun Crystals, a blend of Stevia and Sugar Cane - 5 calories a packet!

Artificial sweeteners taste, well, artificial to me... and also tie my tummy in knots... (ugh)
I like Stevia in the form of Truvia, but I would be willing to take in a few more calories for something that tastes even closer to sugar...

Are you as curious as me? Grab a free sample here

Pickin' Chicken deal of the week

It looks like we have come to the end of the b/s chicken breast blowout prices, for now...
HOWEVER, the SF farms post below has NOTHING on Albertsons this week for bone in chicken breast.

It is $0.77 lb for Split breast, drumsticks, thighs, or leg quarters - or whole fryers this week...
Seriously, cut the breasts off the bone before serving and save those bones (and all the goodness on and in them) in your freezer for stock/ soup.

SF Market Double ad planning time!!

Tomorrow is Double Ad Wednesday at lovely Sunflower Market.. in addition to last week's finds, let's take a look at the flyer for this week (both available here) and peruse the deals that start tomorrow:

Bone IN chicken breast - $1.99 lb (I like bone in chk breast, it is more forgiving and easier to get a juicy finished product, but I end up having to cut it off the bone for The Hub so I usually skip it)
Boneless Pork Loin Roast - $1.97 lb
Boneless London Broil - $1.97 lb
Kiwis or Lemons - 4 for $1.00
Limes - 5 for $1.00
Cucumbers and Green Bell Peppers - 2 for $1.00 (I stock up on Bell Peppers and roast and freeze them when the price is right)
Seedless Watermelons - 2 for $3.00

Those are the things that stood out for me... Also if you are strictly or partially an organic veggie family, there are good prices on Avocados, Zucchini, Broccoli, and Romaine lettuce - check it out...

Plan ahead for mall refreshment!!

Ok ok, this is a ways away... but still, it is a tasty treat to look forward to! And, raise your hand if you knew that some DQ stores are also Orange Julius's? I for one, did not... locate your closest OJ here (BTW - it defaults to the Minneapolis, MN for some reason - but there are PLENTY of locations around the front range)

Mark June 19 on your calendars and print this.

The Biggest WINNER - YOU!!

I'm no turkey - I know a good deal when I see it..
Check out this great deal going down at the Jennie O Website this evening, as brought to our attention by Freebies 4 Mom: Click here
Woo hoo for free quality food!!

Always A Dining Deal on Tuesdays

Not sure if I posted about this before or not, being that it is kind of an institution in my neighborhood - but Tuesdays at Lime (locations here) are "Taco Tuesdays" with hard or soft shell tacos for only a buck each!! Or upgrade from Chicken, Beef, or Veggie, to Tuna for just a tiny bit more...
Taco Tuesday is fabulous - no doubt, but if you can't make it to Lime on Tuesday, stop in for Happy Hour any day of the week and get $3.00 well drinks, rocks margaritas, and XX Amber Draft, as well as $3.00 munchies from their Happy Hour food menu (hello queso!!)

Wouldn't today be the PERFECT day for sitting on the patio with a margarita and some of their awesome flour tortilla chips and salsa?

KFC Coupon update..

I guess their slogan never was "We do COUPONS right," was it?

KFC was blindsided by the number of folks talking advantage of the Oprah coupon for a free two piece grilled chicken meal, and so it will now be offering rain-checks to customers who turn in their coupons - entitling the customer to the deal at a later date..
However, in the "good things come to those who wait" category, they will be including a free drink with the offer now, as an apology!! Read the full statement here.

Drinks for Mom...

As the lovely McKenzie pointed out in in a comment below, my beloved LaLa's is indeed jumping on the Mama Mimosa band wagon for Mother's Day with free mimsies for your madre (or if you ARE a madre) from 9am - 2pm... they are offering brunch on weekends now, but don't have a menu up on the website yet (HELLO - we are an overly informed society.. we like to look before we eat) but I have seen the menu and there is some yummy stuff (duh) to be had... and at the moment they have overpriced their bottomeless brunch beverages just a bit, so a free round for mom (or more, who knows) is fabulous!! (Let's face it, I can't stay away from LaLa's, or from mimosas.. maybe it is ME personally driving up the cost over there, due to supply and demand.)

Check the website here
Update - it is BOTTOMLESS for mamas... now that is a great way to show the mom love!

Plan for SF Market Double Ad Wednesday!

$0.88 lettuces, $0.97 squash, and 20 key limes for $1.00 are all back this week - and all perfect for the weather we are having (now go make me a Key Lime pie!!)

You'll need the tea to wash the humiliation down...

Always a Deal in Denver (or anywhere)

This weekend while searching the racks at my favorite Good Will, I stumbled on the dress that will be my "go to" for weddings this summer... a simple strapless Orange J. Crew number that can be accessorized oh-so-many ways... For $8.99... and I love it, I love it!

And it is great time to point out that there are some things that are ALWAYS a great way to stretch a buck, and second hand stores are one of my favorites! It is the thrill of the hunt that really keeps me going back for more - but it is also an ecconomically and environmentally great alternative to running for the mall! So next time you are looking for the perfect dress, a few "new" chairs for around the table, or ANYTHING ( and I mean anything) try second hand first!!

For all the fabulous moms!!
