and for now, it is DiD.

So DiD  is going MIA for now.  Thanks for the support, hot tips, and for linking to us in the past - keep hunting for those great Deals In Denver!

If you are near Capitol Hill

The King Soopers (yes, you know the nick name, the one at 9th and Corona,) is still having some great deals in honor of their grand reopening.
I am still in mourning over the old floor plan that I knew with my eyes closed, but it has been worth it to skip my usual trip to the fancy new (complete with Liquor section) KS on Leetsdale and hit up this neighborhood stand by just to get the deeper discounts for the grand reopening.
This week (through March 15) B/S chicken breasts are $1.69 lb at that location only!  This is "shameless hording" pricing for me - so look out if you see a little blonde pregnant lady filling her cart!

Weekender

Hooray for the weekend!   We have another jam-packed few days on our hands around The Tree House this weekend - part of me can't believe I am saying this (you know, that part of you that always feels like you just finished middle school last week and can't POSSIBLY be an adult,) but I am going to a baby shower this weekend FOR ME!!  I am so excited - I love the idea of being surrounded by a bunch of women - with all their intuition, wisdom, and experience - ready to guide you on your path to being a mom. FABULOUS!!
It also means that MIL is in town this weekend, as is Dr. Sissy and smushy-love nephew Vaughny!  The Weekender is posting early this week so I can enjoy the family fun!

So, what's to do around Denver on the cheap this weekend?  Here's a few ideas:

2/25-  Those who know me know that I am oddly passionate about knowing your cuts of meat.  One of the best ways to save at the grocery store is to know what to look for in a good cut of meat, and how to make the most out of some of the more inexpensive cuts available.  This Friday evening from 6-7:30 at Tony's Market on Broadway, you can learn all about the different cuts and grades available at their "Meats 101" class.  Call Tony's at 720-880-4501 for more info.  See the "Every Weekend" section below  and plan to stop into Friday Night Live in the Bistro after the class for some free music and specials!)

Weekender -Extendo Valentine's ed.

It's Valentine's weekend in the Mile High City, AND shaping up to be sunny and beautiful!  (I say YAY! Teetering around in all of the snow banks getting from parked car to destination is no fun for this ever-growing pregnant lady!)

So, do you have hot and heavy plans for you and your sweetie this weekend?  How about anything planned for your little Valentines?

Here's some ideas:

2/12 - Lowes Build and Grow clinic this weekend is a fun and free Valentine's Day gift - a heart-shaped music box for your little one to build and keep! Go here for more info and to register.
_________________________________
2/12 - Long to sing your sweetie a chorus of "Daisy, Daisy" while pedaling along with her on your cross bar, but missing the actual wheels needed?  DPD has an inexpensive solution to your transportation woes this weekend. They are hosting an unclaimed Bicycle auction on Saturday at 10am with previewing starting at 9am.  The auction will be held at 1930 35th street, and you can get directions to the building and  look at a list of all the bikes being offered here.

PLUS  - these great ideas for Valentine's Day will make Monday seem like a dream extension of the weekend, instead of the nightmare end it always feels like for me:

-The Denver Museum of Nature and Science has a free general admission day for Colorado residents on the 14th, so you and your sweetie can gaze longingly at both the exhibits AND each other for free. Go here for more info.

-Ice Skate for free at Belmar's outdoor rink from 6pm - 9pm if you and another are dressed alike! (It doesn't have to be your sweetie - but bonus points from this blogger if your outfit involves hairy dude legs in a mini skirt!  Just sayin...)

-BOGO free entrees at Qdoba are easy to score on Monday, all you have to do is show some love.  As in, kiss the person you are with (or the stranger behind you, but if you get smacked, don't say we didn't warn you to use caution,) and your entrees will be BOGO!  (Stick a candle in that giant burrito and you've got yourself some cheap and zesty romance.)

-Indulge your sweet tooth from 3pm-6pm at Marble Slab locations. The are offering a free mini scoop (about three ounces) of Tiramisu ice cream served in a cup.  Find a participating location here.

-Send your friends virtual Valentines on Valentines Day this year through Redbox!  Each one will include a free one night rental code! See Redbox's FB page for details and to get started.

Ruby Hill Rail Yard  gives you a chance to ski and board even if you can't get up the hill! This popular Denver snow terrain park also features free equipment rental for kids - get all the details and location here.

Pickin' Chicken

I have been TERRIBLE about talking local grocery deals lately - but I was recently talking with a friend about what I think is a good price for b/s chicken breasts.

I will tell you, I NEVER pay over 1.88 a pound for b/s chicken breasts, and really I like to keep it lower than that if I can.  When I see a good price, I stock up on as much as my budget will allow for.

This week at Safeway b/s chicken breasts are 1.79 lb.

Y'all get yer boots on!

I LOVE the stock show!  It's the farm heritage in my family sneaking out in me, I guess - because it is one of my favorite things about Denver.
And one of the coolest Stock Show traditions is the annual parade - there is nothing more Colorado to me than a bunch of livestock heading through the middle of downtown!

This year's parade kicks off tomorrow at noon at Union Station and heads up 17th street towards the financial district - don't miss it!
