I Don't Really "do" Black Friday..

Ok, I admit it, though I LOVE a good deal (I mean really LOVE - as in "enough to blog about it" type love,) I can't bring myself to do the early morning or scary crowd that is Black Friday.
That being said, it doesn't seem right to skip over it here at DiD, so I pass the mic to you, Dealers.

Post the Black Friday deals you are most excited about, or other info that your fellow Dealers *should* be getting from me, but aren't in the comments section below.

Meanwhile, I leave you with this link to help you plot and navigate your way through the deals, should you be so inclined. I am sleeping in.

Happy Thanksgiving, Denver!

Sunflower Double Ad Wednesday Preview

Ahhh, Thanksgiving. Groceries' big day to shine.
As always, Sunflower Market is here with fabulous deals to make sure we don't cook our goose when buying our turkey (so-to-speak.)

Last week's ad had some great buys including that cheap-o b/s chicken breast (yes, I know you will have leftover turkey for a while, but stock up for the freezer - you will be happy you did when the turkey is a memory and chicken breast is a rip off.)

And in what is kind of a bummer (no different ad overlapping for new sales) it appears that last week's ad is good through December 2nd. What does this mean? Well, it means you have plenty of time to horde chicken, I guess.

It also means I am pretty much done with this post, eh?

Thursday, November 19, 2009

It's the weekend. or almost, anyway. I don't know about you, but I am already lost in making plans for it, though it is only Thursday now. Personally, I will be alloting a great deal of time to getting up our Christmas decorations, since I have several gatherings planned at The TreeHouse the week after Thanksgiving. Also, I believe The Hub and I will be checking out Caveau Wine Bar to make use of a GC we recieved. (YAY FREE DATE! )

Meanwhile, around town:

11/20- Thirty-three (and a half) years ago my parents got a real 2 for 1 special when the adoption agency called to tell them to come and meet Dr. Sissy and me, and it has been wacky family perfection ever since. So I am a big fan of celebrating National Adoption Day - and Greenwood Community Church is having a wonderful family-oriented event to mark the occasion this year. Full of activities for the kids, treats, and music, the free event runs from 6:30-8:30 pm. Get event and location info here.
11/20-11/21 - Friends of the Jeffco Public Library is hosting the Holiday Whale of a Used Book Sale this Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Over 2,500 "best of the best" gently used books, videos and CDs will be for sale, as well as a great selection of gifts from the Friends Gift and Book Shop also located inside the library. Call (303) 275-2240 for more information.

11/21- There is a Lowes Build and Grow clinic on Saturday, and this time around you and Jr can make a wooden snowman giftcard holder. The perfect handmade (and free) way to present a GC this season! Go here to pick a location and register.
11/21 - Where to have lunch this Saturday? Wahoos Fish Tacos is turning 21! To celebrate, bring in this page on Nov 21st and receive a free meal.
11/21 - It is time to start lighting up the town(s) for Christmas, and Boulder kicks things off this weekend with Switch On the Holidays on the Pearl Street Mall. Come out and help Santa throw the switch to illuminate the mall, enjoy a musical performance by FACE, and head on over to the ice rink at One Boulder Plaza for a free performance. It all starts at 5pm on Saturday. Additional details here.
11/21 - Not near Boulder? Well Southlands is getting things glowing on Saturday as well, this from their website:
Join us for our annual Holiday Kickoff Celebration & Tree Lighting Ceremony Saturday, November 21st 6:00pm at Town Square.(Please note, due to the Parade, Main Street and Town Square parking will be restricted on Saturday. There will also be temporary street closures on Main Street and connecting thoroughfares.)
11/21 - The Art Institute of Colorado and Saloman Snowboards host their first annual Backyard Bang Rail Jam this Saturday from 11am - 5 pm in the "backyard" of the Art Institute at 1200 Lincoln in Denver. The event is free and will feature music and food, and (of course) plenty of snowboarders "jamming the rails" in the competition.
11/22 - Sunday is Fiesta Free Day at the Museum of Nature and Science! Load up the family and make a day of it! Get a rundown of activities here.

That's all for now - tell me what I missed that you are looking forward to - keep it fun and frugal, of course. Happy Weekend, Dealers!

Hot Tip on Mr Potatohead

This from the very deal-savvy Tena:

Toys R Us is having another doorbuster sale this weekend (Fri night/Sat morning) with Mr./Mrs. Potatohead for $3.99. I don't know that TRU takes coupons but Target does, so you could do price matching and use the $2 off coupon here to get a final price of $1.99.

Good Company, Free Meal.

Each third Thursday of the month, St Philip and St James Episcopal Church opens its doors to the community to host a free dinner at 6pm. The meal offers a chance to meet new people or catch up with old friends in your community and enjoy good food, good company, and gracious hosts. (No preaching etc, here folks - just a chance to connect.)
The Church is located at 2797 S. Lowell Blvd. Call 303-936-3922 for more information.

A few things very much worth mentioning in the grocery ads this week!

Woo Hoo!

TGIF, Dealers - welcome to the weekend!
I, for one, am pooped.... any time I get on the sofa this weekend will be well-appreciated, I can tell you that. It will also be limited. Fabulous bff T scored some of the girls half price tickets to the Botanic Gardens Holiday Sale preview party, so I will be checking that out this evening with a few of my favorite friends and getting my Christmas shop on; tomorrow SHOULD be a cooking and cleaning frenzy (we shall see,) and Sunday it is off to Highlands Ranch for brunch at beautiful M's place (God willing and the show piles don't rise TOO much.)
What about you? Here's a few suggestions!

11/13-11/15 -BTW, if you want to check out the Botanic Gardens Holiday Sale (or the gardens themselves, as they dip into their peaceful Fall slumber,) the sale and the gardens are free this weekend (Saturday and Sunday), so go stock up on great gift ideas and wander thru the chilly garden to get you in a festive mood.
11/13 -Denver Arts "Week" is actually 10 days, meaning it runs through Saturday evening. Belmar Block 7 Arts District is hosting an art walk filled with works inspired by Japanese gardens. Check their website for all the info, and use the Denver Arts Week website's interactive events search feature to find out what else is going on during the final weekend.
11/13 - Aurora helps Denver celebrate Arts Week with its own art walk in the East End Art District this evening from 5:00-9:00pm. Start at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library/Municipal Services Center info stop, 9898 E. Colfax Ave and grab a map of the 16 block district to help you on our self-guided tour, stop off at Shadow Theatre Company to watch part of a rehearsal and grab some Hot Cider, and pick your own route and pace through the District. Want more info? Here is the event website.
11/14 - It's time for another Lowe's Build and Grow clinic. Go here to register for Saturday's free clinic, where your kiddo can build a #48 Lowes NASCAR garage.
11/14- It is a Target Sponsored Family Free Day at Museo De Las Americas on Saturday, from Noon -4:00, so come get in on all the free fun at one of the coolest museums you've never visited. According to their website, they will have free admission and creative art activities for children, teens and exhibit tours for adults. And, this time around the Museo is partnering with the Denver Zoo for a fun-filled afternoon of art AND animals.

Also, tis the season of the craft fair, small or large. Besides the Botanic Gardens Sale this weekend, there are some other fairs with free admission that you can visit - no need to pay to get in to these, and you are sure to find some great unique gift ideas:
-Boulder Potters Guild - Fri. 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sun. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Boulder County Fairgrounds, main exhibit hall, in Longmont.

(well, OK that is just for two, so that would be if you promised your sweetie - but $49.99 will save you for a small group.) Check it out in the link above.

Other deals this week:
In Denver check it all out here
$2.99 lb - chuck roast

Weekender - Denver Arts Week!

Happy Weekend, Dealers!! I know I am looking forward to date night at Bones with The Hub, and to some much needed R & R. BUT - It isn't just any old weekend in Denver, no no, this weekend is the start of Denver Arts Week, and there will be tons of free and frugal things to do around town!

11/6 - Things get started tonight with Know Your Arts First Friday, an amped up version of the monthly favorite, and a PERFECT time to acquaint yourself with the First Friday concept. Go here to choose a district (or a few) and plot your route.
11/6 - Tonight at 6:30, Denver University will be holding a free screening "Tapped," a documentary about the secrets of the bottled water industry at Davis Auditorium with a Q and A session with the director after.
11/6 - To celebrate the opening of Illiterate's new space , over 25 artists delved into their wild sides for "Where The Wild Things Art", armed with only the name of the show as inspiration, they each created their own artistic interpretation which will be on display from 7-10 pm this evening - so go explore the new space and the creations here.
11/7-11/8 - Join Corey and Horace at C&H Glassworks as they demonstrate the time-honored art of glassblowing from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can ask the artists questions about their craft, watch the process from designated viewing areas, and explore the gallery. All purchases made during the open house will receive a 10% discount (excluding gift certificates). Visitors can also enter their names for a chance to win one of two $100 gift certificates; one drawing will be held at the end of each day. Grab the family and head over, glassblowing will have the kiddos' eyes wide with wonder for sure!
11/7- Night at the Museums - another DAW event, Denver Museums are offering free admission on Saturday night AND you can catch free shuttles from the Cherry Creek Shopping Center to get to the museums, there are different routes leaving from the center, and you can also ride the shuttles between the different museums, many of which are having special programs that evening for the event. See the routes and participating museums here.
11/7 - Looking for some family fun up north? The Boulder Public Library and members of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra are hosting two free concerts for families on Saturday. First up is “The Steadfast Tin Soldier,” a piece based on Hans Christian Anderson story about a toy soldier and his crush on a paper ballerina. A narrator helps tell the story with a string trio and percussion. The second concert is “Mathnotes,” a show designed for third-through-fifth graders to demonstrate the cool synergy of math and music. 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. Location: The Canyon Theater at the Boulder Public Library, 1001 Arapahoe Ave.
11/8- The first weekend of DAW comes to a close with Sunday on Stage, a day filled with free or reduced cost events putting the spotlight on Denver's performing arts. Here is a complete list of events.

SF Market Double Ad Wednesday Preview

Was it really already a week ago that I was doing my crazy snow dance and not-so-secretly hoping that none of us could shovel out of our parking spaces to even GET to SF Market for Double Ad Wednesday!?
Time flys, Dealers!!

So there was some good stuff last week, which you can peruse here.

This week has plenty worth mentioning too:

$1.77 lb - b/s chicken breasts - we have recently seen them up to 10 cents lower, but this is pretty darn good!
$1.00 - for 5 Rio Red Texas Grapefruit
$1.00 - for 2 Hass Avocados
$0.29 - lb. Yellow Onions
$0.88 - each, bunches of Spinach, or Red or Green Leaf Lettuce, lbs of soft skin squash
$3.00 - for 2, 5 lb bags of Russet Potatoes

Oh well, I guess the sun does feel kind of nice, doesn't it... But I sure did like that snow day!

Come out for a Denver Tradition

This Sunday is the annual Champagne Cascade at the Brown Palace. It is the perfect way to kick off the season (especially if you are like me, and can't wait for Thanksgiving to start your holiday marry-making each year!)
There is no charge to attend and stand with fellow surfs on the upper floors to bask in the glow of the season and watch the bubbly flow.. If you want to cough up 50 bucks you can be on the 2nd floor in the VIP area, with booze and food included (let's face it, I could easily get through 50 bucks worth of booze and food in that time - it isn't even a challenge.. but I digress.)
Check out the details here, and if you can't make it out for the cascade, then stop by The Brown during the holiday season to see it all decked out in holiday glory.
(The only thing I love more is when the Grand Champion Steer from the Stock Show comes to the hotel for high tea.. ahhhh, Denver...)
