Weekender

Listen - do you hear that? The collective sigh of Denverites young and old breathing a sigh of collective relief; the weekend is here! Some need the weekend for holiday running around, to finally catch up on all of those errands, and some need to hide from all that stuff for a while - either way, BRING IT ON!

So, what's fun and frugal along the Front Range this weekend?

12/11 - Are you a student? Have a Student ID? Or a parent looking for something different to do WITH you student? Check out Fridays Free at the MCA! Free admission for anyone with a valid student ID from 10am - 10pm every Friday until the end of the year. Check out their website for info on current exhibits.

*ADDED*12/12 - Hammonds Candies is hosting their annual Candy Cane Festival this Saturday from 9am to 5pm at their factory - 5735 N Washington street in Denver (near 58th and I-25). Santa and the Mrs. will be there, and you and the family can decorate cookies, have your faces painted, listen to stories, and take a trolley ride! While you are there, take a tour of the factory and watch the candy canes and other hard candy being made! Here is the Hammond's website.

12/12 - Do you have a fever that can only be cured with Choir Music? Well get yourself down to The Pavillions on Saturday and enjoy the Premier performance of the Powderhorn Choir as they carole and stroll through the Pavillions starting at noon. Then stake out a spot to sit down near Forever 21 at 2pm when the Rocky Mountain Children's Choir will perform a free concert. All the info you need is here. I can already Hear the Sledges With The Bells, can't you?

12/12 - Kiddo got a craft itch you're lookin' to scratch? Lowes is having a Build and Grow clinic this Saturday that features wooden Christmas ornaments. Clinics are from 10am - 11am and you must pre register here.

12/12 - If you are thinking of a softer, kinder craft, then Michael's workshop featuring a ribbon bookmark with Jewlery Essentials accents might be more your speed (or do both, this runs from 1pm-3pm) - get details here.

12/12 - Feeling girly? Or maybe you feel like getting a boost in the beauty department. Either way, drop by Headlines Salon in Wash Park this weekend (Alameda and Downing) for their Holiday Open House. Meet their AVEDA staff, grab a little holiday treat, get a FREE mini-treatment or makeup touch-up, and register to win prizes, also stock up on any Aveda product you use because it is going to be 10% off, and you get a free goodie bag with every purchase!

12/12 - If you aren't on Holiday fun overload yet, then head over to the Northglenn Marketplace (or as my family refers to it "you know that shopping center where the Northglenn Mall was?" - Showing our age, aren't we?) They are doing free hayrides (The former Girl Scout in me SQUEEEES with glee at the idea of a hay ride) every 15 minutes from Noon to 2pm, and Santa will be on board for picture ops and list checking as well!! (What a cool way to go see Santa, huh?) It's all free!

12/13 - If you aren't crying Holiday UNCLE yet, then head over to the DU campus at 3pm on Sunday for a truly unique concert performance as carillonneur Carol Jickling Lens plays the University’s Williams Carillon, housed in the Ritche Center's Williams tower! This is campus holiday tradition is an outdoor affair, with the prime listening area being located between the Williams Tower and Stapleton Tennis Pavilion. Parking is free in Lot 103 at Buchtel Boulevard and High Street and Lot 108 at South Josephine and Buchtel Boulevard!
