Weekender - 4/30/2010 - 5/2/2010

Week-END, Week-END, Week-END! (Chant with me now, people, and feel the weekend love spreading throughout the Mile High City!)
I love the weekend so much! This weekend is extra special for me, as I welcome my nephew Vaughn to his mommy's (my twin sissy) home state for the first time in his sweet little life. Also, we are celebrating the fact that my husband has been on this planet for 40 years, as of this weekend, and that means I will be playing hostess this weekend. I love playing hostess. LOVE!
So what can you do that is fun and frugal around town this weekend?

4/30 - Downtown for Lunch on Friday? Check out the What to Wear Fashion Show at the Pavilions starting at 11:30. Make a donation to Dress for Success to snag some valuable coupons and be entered to win an hour with a personal stylist. Or just watch the show - 6 regular folks agreed to be styled for upcoming Denver events, and then show their looks off for all the lunchtime lookie-loos in a show on the Pavilions escalator!

5/1 - Got Mulch? Well, if you are Denver resident you have no excuse to answer "no" after Saturday. It is the annual Denver treecycle mulch give away from 8a.m-3p.m. There are several sites where Denver residents can go and pick up as much mulch as needed. Bring your own shovels and containers, please. Check here for locations and rules.

5/1 - The Home Depot Kids Workshop project is a really cute little picket fence planter this month. You and the kiddo can build one between 9a.m. and noon at Home Depot Locations. See their website or call your local store for details.

5/1 - Planter not your style? Well, Lowes Build and Grow Clinic offers an alternative on Saturday. From 10a.m.-11a.m, build a wooden schoolhouse perfect for the upcoming teacher appreciation day. Go here to find a location and register

5/1 - As paper artist Ray Tomasso prepares to open his latest exhibit with a reception during next week's First Friday, he will be on hand at the Byers-Evans House Museum from Noon -4p.m. on Saturday helping visitors make their own paper that you can take home with you. Join in this family friendly event and learn paper-making! More info and directions available at the Colorado Historical Society's website.

Farmer's Markets:
(more to choose from every week!)

Denver Urban Homesteading's market has been my favorite Weekender topic for a while now, and there is NO reason not to show this market the love just because the outdoor varieties are starting back up. Saturdays 9am-2pm.

Cherry Creek Farmers' Market - Saturdays 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Wednesdays start up in June)

Boulder County Farmers' Market - Saturdays 8a.m.-2p.m.

Southwest Plaza - Saturdays 8a.m.-2p.m.
