Weekender

BOOOO!
Did I scare ya?  'Tis that spooky season, Dealers - Halloween weekend is upon us with plenty of tricks, treats, thrills, and chills for all ages around town! 
For us, this weekend is our annual "Pumpkin Carving/ viewing of the original Halloween" at the Tree House.  (Followed by watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" because Halloween scares the crap out of me!)

Halloween fun for the little ones:

-10/29-10/31 - Bass Pro Shops is pulling out all the stops for Halloween weekend, offering free crafts, snacks, trick or treating and other family fun all weekend long!  Go here for details.  (BTW - I here Santa will be spending his early November at Bass, so if you are looking to get in with the big guy early, be on the lookout starting VERY soon.)

-10/29- Schlessman YMCA (2625 S. Colorado Blvd) gets the fun started Friday evening at 5:30 with a "Trunk or Treat" party! Play games, tour a haunted house, do crafts, and  - starting at 7:30 - trick or treat through their lit up and decorated parking lot filled with decorated cars passing out candy from their trunks!

-10/30 - the Fall Family Festival at the Medical Center of Aurora is a great free event for the whole family. Along with Trick or Treating, there are lots of other activities - you can even get your flu shot for $25.00 while you are there! See here for more info.
-10/30 - Saturday from 1-5pm, Downtown Littleton merchants displaying an orange poster will be passing out candy to little trick-or-treaters, so head for the Historic district with your little ghouls and get in on this safe and fun trick or treat alternative! See the website for more info.

-10/30 - The Gardens on Havana in Aurora are getting in on the fun from 1-5pm Saturday too. Merchants will be giving out trick or treat goodies to the kiddos, as well as shopping specials for their parents, and even a trick or treat goodie bag for the furbabies at PetCo!  (Located at Mississippi and South Havana.)

-10/30 - Colfax has something for everyone this year, starting Boo and Brew from 1-4pm for your little ones to trick or treat Colfax merchants between York and Monroe - bring a non perishable food item to donate to Colfax Fights Hunger!  Get details and a list of the many participating merchants here.

-10/31 - Old South Pearl's Farmers' Market is also OSP's Halloween Fest this Sunday! You can multi-task and take the kids in costume for some Halloween fun while shopping for local foodstuffs!  See OSPSA's website here.

Free Meals for the Kiddos:

-10/29 - Breakfast for dinner (or anytime,) please!  From 7am -10pm on Friday, children 12 and younger can get a free "Scary Pancake" at participating IHOP locations (call to check if yours is.) The BIG pancake comes with a strawberry nose, whipped topping mouth, and other fixin's for the kids to create their own scary face!
10/29-31 - Kids can get a free kid's entree with the purchase of an adult entree all weekend at Qdoba locations - so load up the fam and partake in the liquid cheesy goodness!

For the Grown Ups:

10/30 -  Starting at 6pm you can head for LoHi's Halloween Stroll to get in on some big kid tricks and treats! Participating Restaurants: Lola Coastal Mexican, Vita, Little Man Ice Cream, Zio Romolo's Alley Bar, Highland Tap and Burger will be ffeaturing food and drink specials, a costume contest at 9pm and live music with The Big Motif from 9:30pm-12am at Lola. 10/30 - Boo and Brew (part two) - Colfax hot spots come alive for the adults after the daytime kiddie festivities end - put on those costumes and head for the Bluebird district to join in the fun - costume contests, drink specials, music and a haunted house!  Check  the website for details and participating bars.

Weekender

Yep, I am quite the DiD slacker, and (as you can see from yesterday's post) I am considering some changes in bloggy-land.  Weekenders continue - and there is lots to do around town this weekend that is fun and frugal!  Also, get out and take advantage of those outdoor farmer's markets (listed at the bottom of the post) as they will be closing up shop soon.
As for us - the weekend before Halloween means just one thing around The Tree House: "Pumpkins for Jesus" - which is what we call our annual trip to Calvary Temple's pumpkin patch to pick out our future jack-o-lantern!
Here are some weekend activities that will keep you and your wallet happy:

10/22- If standing in line to get yogurt is your favorite new activity, Pinkberry is the place to be Friday evening from 4pm-7pm! They will be giving out free mini versions of their pumpkin pinkberry with special toppings, as well as $2.00 off coupons for pumpkin pinkberry take home packs. Go here for locations.

10//22- Big CU Buffs fan? Then Pearl Street Mall is the place for you Friday evening! Friday nights before home games fans gather on the mall for a parade and pep rally to get ready for Saturday's games! Starting at 7pm, you can join the CU band and cheerleaders, and of course the football team and get pumped up for the game with a parade along the mall and pep rally after in the Daily Camera Parking lot at 11th and Pearl. Gooooooooo BUFFS!

Weekender

I'm siiiiiiiiiiick. 
All I want this weekend is my bed, my kleenex, and my saline spray.  (OK, so a shot of NyQuil sounds good too - but that ain't gonna happen, so I will pretend that hot water with lemon does the same thing.)

What can you do this weekend if you don't feel like crap, and don't want to shell out a bunch of dough?

10/15 - Big CU Buffs fan? Then Pearl Street Mall is the place for you Friday evening! Friday nights before home games fans gather on the mall for a parade and pep rally to get ready for Saturday's games!   Starting at 7pm, you can join the CU band and cheerleaders, and of course the football team and get pumped up for the game with a parade along the mall and pep rally after in the Daily Camera Parking lot at 11th and Pearl. Gooooooooo BUFFS!

10/16 - If you are itchin' to get into the creepy crawly spooky side of Fall, and head up the mountain on a beautiful Colorado weekend evening, then load the car for Central City (after RSVPing for your spot here) and join in the free lantern lit walking tour of this spooky old mining town.  The first tour starts at 7, and tours leave after that every 5-7 minutes until 7:30 - so there is lots of space!  If you can't go this weekend, they are also running Saturdays through the end of October.  BOOOOO!  (Scared ya, didn't I?)

10/16 - Take a journey to the old West at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge's "Refuge Round Up" on Saturday.  There will be hayrides and storytelling and crafts and more, all free of charge!  Snacks and meals will be available for a small fee, but there is TONS of free fun to be had at this event.  Get all the details here.

10/16- Sitting on a pile of personal documents and info that need secure destruction and disposal? Well Aravda has you covered on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. Take up to 3 boxes  or bags of paper to the Arvada Center parking lot (6901 Wadsworth Blvd.). There is no charge, but donations will go to Arvada Police Department’s Explorer’s Program.

Weekender

Weekend!!  I am SOOOOOOO ready for a little R&R!  There has been some big goings on around the Tree House lately, which have been greatly contributing to both my love of lazy, activity free weekends AND my lack of posts around here (what with the whole "if I sit down for over 10 minutes, I pretty much fall asleep and it is fine by me" thing I have going on lately.)  I hope now that the wonderful truth is out, you will forgive my neglect, Dealers.
So what is up this weekend around town?

10/9 - 10/10 - It is time for the Botanic Gardens annual Pumpkin Fest!  Held at the Chatfield location, this one is always a family fave. There are admission costs, but they cover LOTS of activities once you are inside, and this can be a whole day of family fun. Go here for all the information.

10/9 - Want to bring the carnival home? Sign the kiddos up for Lowes Build and Grow clinic this Saturday and they can make a free Fun House Mirror craft project!  Go here to find a location near you and register.  The clinics run from 10am-11am at local Lowes locations.

10/9 - Aurora's Pumpkin Fest has free admission, AND you can watch the Jack-o-launch, a pumpkin launching contest between teams of creative folks and their pumpkin flinging inventions!  All the fun takes place at DeLaney Farm at 170 S. Chambers Road.  There will also be hay rides, music, face painting, art projects - many activities are free, and for the rest costs start at only $1.00!  Go here for all the information you need.

10/9 - Sam's Club locations are offering free health screenings at their locations this weekend, no need to be a member! Go here to find a locations for the clinics, which include screenings for osteoporosis, cholesterol, glucose levels, body mass index, and blood pressure checks.  You can get a $24.00 flu shot at the clinic as well!

10/9 - Need MORE family fun? Well the Town Square of Arvada is worth checking out on Saturday! you can enter or just observe scarecrows of all shapes and sizes throughout Olde Town. Bring costumed kids for the parade, navigate the corn maze, find a perfect pumpkin and be sure to vote for your favorite scarecrow. The fun is happening from 10am- 3pm in the Square. At 2pm Aravda will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Olde Town Water Tower!  Check here for more details and location.

YAY WEEKEND!!  It is time to find fun and frugal things to do around town, so what are some great options?

10/2-10/3- First things first - Saturday is a free admission day for the Denver Art Museum, and Sunday is a free admission day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (for Colorado residents.) Get the details on both here.

10/1 - It's First Friday in Denver's Art Districts, and what a beautiful evening it is going to be for it!
This article is From Denver Arts Week, but it lists the different districts that host First Friday events, so pick a new area to explore and head out this evening for art and enjoyment. Not sure where to go?  Head for the Santa Fe Arts District and stop by the Andrea Li Truck Show at Studio MCG benefiting the Susan G Komen Foundation and browse for a good cause.  Bonus? Sample wines from the district's own Art District’s Urban Winery, The Infinite Monkey Theorem!  Check the FB page for more details. (Hint there are TONS of great things to see and do in all of the fabulous arts districts on First Fridays, so you can't really go wrong.)

10/2-10/3 - Four Mile Historic Park hosts their annual Pumpkin Harvest Festival this weekend, and it is always a favorite for families looking to get into the Fall spirit!  Admission is free and so are lots of activities, so travel back in time to Harvest-time when the West was really wild - play games, listen to music, make a scarecrow, and explore Four Mile House. Other activities which do include a cost include picking your perfect pumpkin out of the patch and enjoying candy apples and other refreshments!  Go here for all the details and directions.

10/2- Looking for some fun and local crafts and gift ideas?  Head for the Horseshoe Craft and Flea Market in Berkley this weekend!  Browse the vendors and let the kids participate in activities from 8am-3pm. See here for more details.

10/2 - 10/3 - Buy apples to press or BYOA (Bring Your Own Apples) to Lakewood Cider Days. The Festival is open from 10am-5pm in Belmar Park on Saturday and Sunday and features all kinds of great activities for the whole family. There is an admission charge for this one, folks - $6 for adults and $3 for kiddos gets you access to all the fun AND "All children’s activities are free with paid admission including barrel train rides, hayrides, face painting, apple-themed games and hands-on crafts."
